چکیده

A computational approach to the study of three-dimensional instabilities of flows in a Czochralski crucible is proposed. The flow is driven by buoyancy, thermocapillarity and rotation of the crystal and the crucible. The thermal boundary conditions account for the prescribed temperatures or heat flux, as well as convective and radiative heating or cooling of the boundaries. The numerical approach is based on finite volume discretization and consists of a Newtontype solver for the calculation of the steady flow states and an Arnoldi solver for the solution of the eigenvalue problems associated with the linear stability of the flow. Preliminary test calculations and examples of stability studies for the Czochralski melt flow are reported. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 81.10fq; 47.20 k

Three-dimensional numerical simulation of temperature and flow fields in a Czochralski growth of germanium

For a Czochralski growth of Ge crystal, thermal fields have been analysed numerically using the three-dimensional finite volume method (FLUENT package). The arrangement used in a real Czochralski crystal growth lab included a graphite crucible, heat shield, heating device, thermal insulation and chamber including two gas outlets. We have considered two cases for calculations, which are configur...

Numerical study of three - dimensional instabilities of Czochralski melt flow driven by buoyancy convection , thermocapillarity and rotation

A recent numerical approach for the study of three-dimensional instabilities of axisymmetric melt flows in Czochralski crucible is described. The convergence studies and comparisons with previously published experimental and numerical data are reported. Convergence requirements are estimated. Basing on a certain experimental configuration we give an example of the stability diagram which shows ...

Experimental study and numerical simulation of three dimensional two phase impinging jet flow using anisotropic turbulence model

Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...

A Three-dimensional Numerical Modeling of Contaminant Dispersion from Arvand Rood River into the Persian Gulf

The Persian Gulf is an important economic and geo-political region. Owing to its oil and gas resources, it is one of the busiest waterways in the world. There are many operating oil wells in the northern part of the Persian Gulf . As a result, the risk of contaminant dispersion is high. The deliberate discharge of 6.3 million barrels of crude oil during the 1991 war against Kuwait in this regio...

Three-Dimensional Simulation of Qeshm Channel Currents

Qeshm Channel is a shallow and narrow waterway located between Qeshm Island and the mainland in the vicinity of Hormuzgan Province, Islamic Republic of Iran. This channel is important because of its economic, industrial, fisheries and navigation role it plays as well as environmental issues it presents in the region. A prognostic study was performed to simulate currents in this channel, using C...
